An invitation is extended to leaders in Primary Schools to participate in a Study Tour Program to Singapore in the October school holidays this year. This invitation is extended to principals, deputies/APRIM’s, heads of primary and those in other senior leadership roles in all States and Territories of Australia.

This program in based on a previous successful ACPPA managed Study Tour in 2016. This tour will be offered through a partnership between the South Australian Catholic Primary Principals’ Association and the Melbourne based Asia Education Foundation.

Participants will be exposed to several objectives through the program including:

• A better understanding of school leadership and education in Singapore
• Developing an understanding of how key organisations interact and engage to support development of their schooling system
• Identify effective policies and practices that they can potentially adapt to local settings and broaden participants knowledge to inform local decisions and practices
• Deepen participants cultural knowledge and understanding
• Build school leaders intercultural understanding through interactions with local people and observations of social practices
• Build the capacity for participants to implement the Australian Curriculum’s cross curriculum priority of Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia across learning areas.

Having hosted such learning programs in the past I believe it would be very beneficial, particularly at this time as we focus on the development of our systems around Australia.

The focus of the program is not about duplicating the Singapore model, but rather developing understandings about a high performing system and those aspects that promote this; their priorities, connections and planning. This is inclusive of the role of different parties/groups and the work each of them undertakes, as well as the significant priority on how they work together; including how their clusters work and support school development and improvement. The program is also inclusive of engagement with several Singapore based primary schools.
